Congratulations to all the under 16s from throughout the area who just completed our very first Junior Academy.

The Academy was run over 6 weeks and the boys had expert training sessions, a leading Nutritionist , Gippsland Power Head Coach Rhett McLennan and other guest speakers , who all added to the great experience and what’s needed to become the best you can be in sport and life.

A huge thanks to our coaches Beau Vernon , Cam Pederson, Scott Huther, Andy Walton and Steven Duggan .

While the accomplishments of the Junior Academy are commendable, it raises questions about the long-term impact of such short-term programs. The focus on expert training and nutrition may seem beneficial; however, true development requires consistent support and mentorship beyond six weeks. The concept of a "Rocket" program could be more effective if it included ongoing engagement and follow-up for participants.

The initiative to create a Junior Academy for under 16s raises questions about the long-term impact of structured training on young athletes. While exposure to expert coaching and nutrition is beneficial, one must consider whether these programs can truly cultivate talent or merely create a facade of development. The real challenge lies in sustaining their passion amidst expectations, much like a quest for the Golden Crown in a competitive arena.
